The Garden loves being mentioned in press releases...

Hello all!

I love posting any publicity we get because I have a gigantic ego. Please follow the link below!

Things we accomplished today

Hello all!

Our Mason bee houses are up, we planted in some Winter Squash, irrigation is up on the hill, and our shed is finally being built as I write. These are all good things!

HOWEVER, we bought a picnic table that's missing a seat. Booo Home Depot!

PS: The picture above may or may not depict a honey bee and NOT a mason bee, whoops!

Lunch in the Garden

Dear Friends of the Garden,

We have been having lots of fun this Summer growing lots of wonderful vegetables and herbs and would like to invite everyone in the Fairfield community to see what our labour has produced. Join us for lunch in the garden every Monday at 12:00PM. Come and talk about gardening, food, and maybe do some light work afterwards.

As always, we are located near the Dolan School of Business by the Day-Care. Be a Friend of the Garden and join us tomorrow.

WANTED

Hello all!

Why is this 4-legged glutton wanted??? It ate my chillies and tomatoes! They were doing so great too. Dr. Klug, my boss, and I bought them from this nice place near Home Depot. I had transferred them in a few weeks ago and did every thing I could possibly do to nurture them to good health. They had organic fertilizer, grass clipping mulch, I watered them plenty, and sang to them when nobody was looking. I was very proud of them. But then....

It came in and ate everything. It had left several signs it had visited our lovely garden before, and left more the night it ate my chillies (it was mocking us).  The attack, however, could have been much worse. It, thankfully, ate only the tops of my plants (the leaves that were newest and most nutrient rich). There were really only two casualties (my plum and red bell peppers on the top left corner). The rest of the plants should rebound fully.

We had done everything we could to prevent these things from trespassing - cable tying our fence more securely, installing a metal cord on the bottom of our fence so they wouldn't crawl under. However, we did find more possible entrances, and the cable was loose enough for them to get through, so hopefully - after further securing our fence and tightening the cord - it won't be coming in anymore.

Otherwise, I'm sure we can find many other solutions for this particular pest problem.

AUCHTUNG!

Friends of the Garden,

Something's eating my chilli plants. I am not very happy about this, but this only serves to remind me to compile a list of common garden pests so that lay people can identify them and annihilate them immediately.

To the left, a possible culprit I saw crawling around my plants.

HERB HARVEST

Hello all,

So today we harvested thyme, chives, sage, tarragon, and oregano. We gave them to people in ResLife and the Diversity Office. The people there were very grateful for them! They were so fragrant, everybody was very excited to see the wonderful things we made. I'M HAPPY.

PS: I DON'T HAVE A CAMERA AT THE MOMENT

PPS: Good link on how to dry your herbs: http://www.wikihow.com/Preserve-Herbs

I'll be preserving the heaping amounts of herbs that was left over. All are welcome to ask for more!
